Welcome back

Posted on April 15, 2005

This is just a great big welcome back to me! You know what they always say…Ignorance is bliss. However, in this case, ignorance just meant that I would blow my blog right out of the blogosphere.

It wasn’t even like I was trying to fix anything…..I didn’t even have a problem. I was working on another site, noticed that there were no databases allocated, as they used to be. I used to have multiple MySQL db’s available, now I had zero. So I corrected that, then I thought, I’ll jump over here and make sure things were ok, discovered I had zero MySQL databases allocated here. In good faith, I thought I would just add a few to make sure I had them available if I decided to do more and I actually wiped out my blog!

Then I discovered today that the data was still there, but something wasn’t right. I then backed up my data, then just blew everything away and started over. I just restored my data, so all the posts with all the comments are now restored, I think. I see now that my categories are still messed up but I can easily correct that tomorrow.

So, I’m back online. The other site is in the works now and I’ll see how it takes shape. I have been meaning to spec it out for about the last month, but I just can’t do that. It’s coming together now as I sit down and do it.

The comments have additional characters all thruout but that’s ok. I’m happy I got them sync’d up with the posts. I still need to move all my old posts over from blogger but for now, I’m not going to worry about that.

I’m happy, life is good, for the moment. I need to finetune a backup process so I can restore my data easily, what I just went thru was pretty crude and dirty. But hey, it worked.

I have no idea where I got my free template from, so I gotta work on that, but I might just leave it this way for awhile. Mary just saw it and said she liked it and if she likes it, then it must not be too bad.

By the way, I installed a new template at Tortuous Path, so check that out if you want. Also, my new site is Real Tech Matters and it is still in it’s very early stages, still working the design out while adding some content. But soon it will be out there. Click on the headline to see more about what that is all about.

The final step is to validate the xml and css…..again! Oh well, my days at work are extremely long this week, due to my lack of anything to do. So I’m having fun working on all this stuff.”
