3rd Sundays

If you haven’t stumbled across Pete Bishop’s blog, you need to go check it out. Crossroads Community Church is a church that has it goin’ on. His latest post describes what they call 3rd Sundays. He describes it well:

On the 3rd Sunday of every month each subset of our technology team has training geared specifically towards there area of expertise. It’s led by myself and the leaders of that area. This allows every team, training time in the building a couple times a year to augment the mentor and other training we do.

What a way to keep training and mentoring on the forefront! This is a church that does not have their own building, so on a weekly basis, they are setting everything up, sound board, mains, monitors, mics…everything(I’m actually assuming a little bit, they could be using house speakers or what not, but still, it’s a lot of work.) To reiterate my comment I left on his post, I have total respect for churches that do this type of thing weekly, I used to be a member at a church that met in a middle school(they still do) and every Sunday and Wednesday, we arrived early to pull everything out and set it up. You think doing a sound check can be challenging at times, when nothing has moved, try building your production every week and getting the sound in the house and on stage consistent week after week. That takes dedication and a heart for this ministry. I know my time doing this kind of thing, only about a year before I moved out of state, really gave me a good foundation in everything related to sound. I run the sound at my current church, in rotation with a couple of other guys and it sure is easy to take for granted the fact that I basically walk up each Sunday and sit down with things ready to go. There’s more to it than that but you get the point. Pete and Brian both work at Crossroads and they both have a lot to add to the arena of technology in the church. Check them out!
