Oh yeah, I almost forgot, after I got home on Friday I ordered my Simply Strategic Pack. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you are really missing out. Tony Morgan and Tim Stevens from Granger Community Church have written 3 books, Simply Strategic Stuff, Simply Strategic Volunteers and now, Simply Strategic Growth. I would recommend reading all 3 and the easiest way to do so is to go here. Author Tony Morgan writes about the newest book here and clearly, he has a lot of good to say about his books, especially the latest one, SSG. Tony’s a good guy and has a great blog, check him out if you haven’t come across his blog yet. He is Pastor of Administrative Services at Granger Community Church. I honestly didn’t intend to purchase all 3 books, I was simply doing some strategic repairing of some damage I had caused. My buddy Brad had loaned me his Simply Strategic Stuff book. Brad is the one who first made me aware of GCC, a couple of years ago and he has absorbed the first 2 Simply Strategic books. I was finally able to pry Simply Strategic Stuff out of his tight grip and I borrowed it to read and I took it on a business trip couple of months ago. It was a great read that week, I got home late Friday night, after driving an hour in the rain from the airport and of course, it started raining hardest when I pulled in the driveway. I have the luxury of having a detached garage(if you think an attached garage is so much better, you are missing out…ok, maybe I am, but let me think what I want to), so I pulled in the garage and in my attempt to get inside in one quick trip, I grabbed everything in my arms. Dufflebag, coat, Amish delicacies, and the SSS book under my arm. As I’m nearly to the house, something tragic happened. The book fell to the ground. It landed on the rain soaked sidewalk. That’s all it took. One of Brad’s prized possessions, laying by my driveway in the rain. Due to my lack of better judgement, I proceeded to leave the book lying there while I took my stuff to the covered porch. In a matter of seconds, there was not a dry page on the book. It took me a month to break the news to him and now it’s taken another month for me to get around to ordering him a new book. The book dried pretty well and is in ok condition, but it’s not the way it was when he gave it to me. So Friday, I went out to order the replacement for him. When I saw the Triple Pack, I knew I had no choice but to order all 3. So Brad’s going to get his book back and I keep the rain soaked one plus get the 2 new ones. The books, by the way, are short chapters addressing many areas of being effective in your ministry. (my description, not theirs) The last 2 books, I’m assuming are specific to their topic. (I know, I’m just trying to look like I’m smart) But I would recommend all of them, even without reading them, based on what I have heard and read. I’m certainly not doing the books justice here, go check them out for yourself. My tip of the day: just order the Triple Pack and get it over with. Otherwise, I would venture to say that you will read one of them and immediately be ordering the other 2. (plus the Triple Pack comes with a discount, and that’s always good!) Cool, as I sit here typing, the e-mail just came in stating that the books have been shipped. That’s a great turnaround, I put the order in about 5:45pm Friday and it’s just after 9:00am Monday. I would link to Brad’s blog but so far, he has been resistant to jumping out here. He’s got a lot of insight to share, in my opinion, but not a lot of time. It’s cool though, I’ll keep harrassing him about that. All I know is that I’m pretty satisfied to know that I have purchased the new book, Simply Strategic Growth, before Brad, I know he has been anticipating it’s release. So Brad, you are welcome to borrow it once I read it, just take care of it, man, don’t do unto others as they have done to you!
