My Incredible Day @ FLF

Posted on May 30, 2005

First of all, let me say, I wrote this entire post, without saving along the way, of course, then did something and it was gone. So, I’m starting over, I had a good practice round and now the real thing will be fine tuned and ready for prime time. I’ve just prayed to ask for God to protect my writing this time around, I know satan is hard at work to prevent the good things going on today.

What an incredible day we had today! As I mentioned in the previous post, we traveled an hour down the road, to Bentonville, Arkansas and visited Brian and Laquita’s church, Faith Life Fellowship (FLF). FLF has been in existence for exactly 6 months, today and I have been excited about visiting this church for at least that long. It has been in the works even longer. God is really moving in that place and their focus and purpose is to trust God, preach His word and reach people with His love. The Lord is doing a big thing with this church and He has only just begun. Pastors John and Dawn Donald have been led, through a series of events and circumstances, to begin FLF and lead this church and it’s apparent that the ministry of this church is a God thing. It’s not about them, it’s not to draw attention to themselves, it’s actually much bigger than them. It’s all about God and where He is leading this church. It was easy to meet people, they were friendly to us and welcomed us, it’s obvious that this is a tight-knit group of people. Also, this is not a church plant or a satellite location, this is a new church, started by a handful of people with the idea that there is a lot of work to be done to bring people into a relationship with Jesus. I didn’t count the people there this morning but I would guess there were 30 people, at least. It’s difficult to describe because in my opinion, words do not do this experience justice at all. The worship service was alive, the Holy Spirit was in that place and it was obvious to me. The people at this church were there because they wanted to be and the Lord is blessing their hearts and their worship time. Pastor Dawn took the kids to their own worship time, part way thru the service and to quote my kids, they both said \Pastor Dawn is awesome! I want to come back!” I don’t know exactly what they did in there, but I do know it was cool stuff and she led them in their own time of worship. Let me add my own quote here - “Pastor John is awesome! I wanna come back!” Both of these people are down to earth, Godly people that are following God as He leads them. You know, I seriously cannot give our experience today justice, it was an awesome, blessed time. John and Dawn are longtime youth and children’s ministers, from what I understand, so of course their children’s programming is going to be first class. Mary made the comment on the way home that this church will always be very kid friendly, due to John and Dawn’s experience and background. After the service, we had a cookout and the kids got to play in the water…we all pretty well got baked in the sun. After awhile, we circled around the sign out front, held hands and prayed, asking God to bless this building and bless the work that is being done there. It was an honor to not only join them in worship, but to be a part of their dedication. I would give you a link to their site but it is not up yet. Mary is working on their site and she took plenty of pics today and some of them will be up on the site when it goes live. I will give you the link, once it’s ready for primetime, it won’t be long. If you recall my adventure that led me to buying my Simply Strategic pack, then here is the continuation of that story. I took Simply Strategic Stuff and Growth to Brian and Laquita to read and whoever else they wanted to pass them onto. I kept volunteers because that is really where I’m at right now is beginning to coordinate volunteers for various things in the church, so I’m absorbing that book. SSG has some excellent points and FLF may really benefit, I know I have gotten alot out of these books. Did you get all the abbreviations? I hope so, cause now I GTG. Oh yeah, by the way, I asked Laquita if she would want to write some posts for this blog on her experiences with house churches and church startups etc. and she accepted the challenge. I’m looking forward to having a guest blogger and who knows, maybe she’ll turn into a regular poster here. She has a lot of insight and knowledge in many areas and she has plenty of time on her hands, I mean she’s just a stay at home mom……..(don’t overlook the extremely heavy sarcasm in the last remark) Laquita and I go way back, I realized today that I have known her longer than I have known Mary, we figured today, we have known each other 19 years and I have only known Mary for 17 years. Check out her comments on a few of my last several posts to read what she shared on her experiences with house church and startups. So she will come on board soon, when she’s ready, I’ll you know, don’t worry.
