Kid’s Worship – Energized for Summer

I love blogging! Where else can someone like me write anything and network with others and share ideas on a variety of topics and also read what others have to say about a variety of topics. I am easily entertained, that should be obvious, by now.

Once again this week, our children’s worship was full of energy and the kids and adult leaders are fully engaged. The music is loud and it is songs that the kids enjoy singing, plus they are learning some new songs. As I mentioned last week, we are now using i-Tunes and feeding it directly to the sound board, plus some of the music comes from DVD and is music plus video for the screen, with the words and actions. Plus we have kids on stage leading the actions.

I’m currently training a new volunteer to run i-Tunes/EasyWorship and starting in a few weeks, I’ll begin training some kids to do that and possibly get some more help running sound and overseeing everything in the sound booth. Fun stuff!

We had a couple of technical difficulties but it’s definitely a learning process. It’s always cool when the people in the sound booth start scrambling when something goes wrong, like the wrong song starts playing. Occassionally something may go wrong, but Sunday, I think we started the same wrong song 3 times before figuring out how to play the right song. I know it’s not rocket science to hit ‘Play’, but this thing would not move on. We got it finally and we learned some more about i-Tunes.

My ultimate goal in sound and media is to not be noticed (because everything should run as expected) and we were successful in getting the entire room to turn around and look at us. heh……the first time in a long time I’ve done that and hopefully the last!

For the summer, we are doing 3 kid’s worship services, which is for K-4th grades and we also have a pre-teen service for 5th and 6th grades and of course youth worship services for jr. high and high school.

Kids are welcome to worship with their parents in ‘big’ church, but we offer these alternatives so kids and youth can worship in their environment and be taught at their level and in a way that reaches them. The number of kids in ‘big’ church is less, due to the alternatives we offer, but I don’t mind having some kids worshipping with us. Plus at least a couple times a year, we don’t have any children’s programming and families worship together. It’s good for the kids to see mom and dad worship, even if it’s only on occassion.

We got some good pictures this past Sunday, I’ve got to get with my photo editor….errrrr I mean, my wife to see where they are and I’ll try to post them here soon.

What is your church doing to reach families?
