The highlight of my week had to be yesterday, when Mary called me at my office and asked what I was doing. Seemed kind of odd, I admitted to her that I was working and actually getting some stuff done. She said she needed a favor, some friends of ours from Tulsa had stopped by on their way to Branson and as they were getting ready to leave, they realized that neither one of them had brought the Silver Dollar City tickets. The tickets were still sitting in their living room, 2 hours away. Mary wondered if I could sneak out of work a little early, come home and ride to their house and back with our friend, while the wives and kids stayed at our house. Of course, me being one to jump at the chance to leave the office early was all over that, so I ran home and we hit the road.
It was great, it reminded us of our days in college, just taking a road trip for no reason, although we did have a reason this time, but it’s a lot harder to be spontaneous these days.
We had about 4 1/2 hours on the road, good conversation, good food and we even got the tickets. The kids also had fun playing for about 4 1/2 hours. I got my Taco Bueno fix, which most people probably don’t know what you’re missing but it’s well worth the 2 hour drive. A few beef and potato burritos from Bueno and 44 oz Mountain Dew from Quik Trip and I was happy!
I was reminded of how much I don’t miss Tulsa though, we saw an accident on the interstate near Tulsa. They were totally off the highway, so no lanes were blocked but traffic was backed up for probably 3 miles. It’s crazy, everyone has to slow down to a crawl to check it out. Get me back home. It’s nice to visit, but I’m pretty much a small town guy these days.
They ended up spending the night, since it was late when we got home.
We are supposed to hook up with our forgetful friends tomorrow at Silver Dollar City…….I hope they don’t forget!
