Successful Blog (?)
Posted on August 12, 2005
I was asked recently if my blog was successful and it seemed like such an awkward question. I’m gonna say yes, it is successful, up to this point, but not for any reasons that you typically equate with success.
Considering my original intentions for doing a blog focused on technology in the church, I would say it’s a success. I haven’t arrived, that’s for sure, but it’s a fun journey. A big reason I started this blog is because I know I don’t know it all and there are many others out there that know things I don’t and I know a few things that others don’t know. For me, this is a big information swap, I share what I know and you can share what you know, if you want, and hopefully, we all come out better, more knowledgeable and better equipped in the end.
Success is usually measured in numbers and quite honestly, there are many blogs and sites out there that get far more traffic than I get, and it has been easy for me to focus on that. I’m a numbers kind of guy, but numbers are not why I do this.
It’s easy to compare to other blogs and wonder why they have so much more traffic than I do, but that’s not the point. The point is following where God is leading me, seeking His will.
So, in the end, I’m doing this in response to God’s leading and I will continue until it becomes apparent that it’s time to move on.
Since I am a numbers kind of guy, I will share this. This blog gets hundreds of hits every day, especially when I actually write relevant stuff and those hits come from all over the world.
U.S., U.K., Malaysia, Australia, South Africa, just to name a few. I’ll have to look and share some specifics. It’s incredible to think someone like me can have a reach around the world!
Now, the real consideration is what am I doing with this medium that is furthering God’s kingdom?
Something to ponder, that’s for sure.

Jim, you wrote

I’ve been through this as well; comparing myself to other bloggers and trying to find the key to keeping people’s attention. But then I had to decide WHY I was blogging in the first place and what I wanted to accomplish by it. Just now I’m asking “God, what do YOU want to come of this?”
These are all questions bloggers have to ask at some point because the numbers CAN get disappointing sometimes. If that’s all we’re doing it for, then what’s the point?
I look forward to reading more of your archives. Blessings.
