Who do you blog for?

Scott Hodge has a great post today on Blog Depression. This is something that you may get when you feel you have nothing worthwhile to write and you may also get it when you stop to think ‘Who are all of these people that read my blog?’ It can be overwhelming, that is for sure. I have felt this, probably more than I would like to admit. For me, I didn’t start my blog for anyone but myself. I didn’t start it thinking, someday, this will be a big thing. It’s gotten bigger read by more people than what I ever imagined and that is kind of a wierd thing, but the fact remains, I’m not writing this for you, necessarily, I’m writing for me, with the thought that I hope others find benefit. I’ve got a lot to learn, I know that and this blog has proven over and over again that there is a wealth of knowledge out there in my readers. Ultimately, I hope you find benefit here as well as we share what we know with each other. Based on Scott’s post and the comments he has received, many of us admit to starting a blog for ourself, not for the number of readers we can get. There are multiple lessons here.

  • Don’t forget your reason for blogging.
  • Your readers may grow naturally, without you doing anything intentional.
  • It’s ok to take a break.

Good thoughts.
