Comment etiquette

Thanks to you, my faithful readers/faithful comment spammers/faithful contact form spammers, I have had the opportunity to fine-tune my defense strategy and lock things down here much better than what it would be otherwise.

Actually, if you are reading and even commenting, you are are very much appreciated by me. Blogging is fun and the interaction and relationships that happen are awesome!

One step I have had to take, which could affect anyone, is moderating comments when they include links. I had it set to moderate when more than 2 links are present in a comment, which would take out comment spammers. However, I changed that to 1 or more links in the comment will send it to be moderated. Most times, links are not a part of comments, but on occassion, a link or 2 might be necessary, about 1 out of 20 comments here has included a valid link and that’s cool, but this is just notice to all that if you include one or two links, it probably won’t show immediately. But I will post it, don’t worry.

The reason for this is that this is not a forum for free advertising. If you are posting a comment to advertise your event, don’t do it here. That’s the type of comment that will never see the light of day. If you’re posting a link that is relevant and/or interesting and especially if you are known in these parts, then that’s cool.

The beauty of me having my own blog is that I get to make up my own rules. There’s nobody hanging over my shoulder, making sure I follow the rules, maintain the policies blah blah blah.

Things are done my way and life is good. 99.99999% of people who frequent this blog are not the issue at all.

Mr. contact form spammer
and all comment spammers, I know who you are, I know your IP addresses and you have officially been shut down, at least for now. Until you find another way around the system.

The takeaway on this one is to let your comments be relevant to the topic at hand. Let’s continue to build this community and help each other.
