Light of Eternity

Well, I’m home alone for a few minutes, the dishes are done and our small group should be here in about 20 minutes, realistically, about 40 minutes. We’re pretty laid back with our schedule, but man, we click as a group. It’s really a God thing and He is bringing some new people into our group right now, which is awesome.

Tonight is our first real study since last spring and I am leading the study for the first few weeks. The intention was to study money, material stuff and how God expects us to handle all this stuff he has given us. (Also, I intentionally avoided calling it a stewardship study since that tends to bring preconceived ideas that many of us turn it off when we hear mention of a sermon or study on stewardship.) The Lord has led me in a different direction, kind of, which is not unusual for God.

We will still be studying stewardship things, but I have thought alot lately about the value of what I do with the stuff God blesses us with. This stuff is not limited to material stuff but talents, abilities, desires, time, money, attitudes……on and on.

What I’m getting at is this question -

Is what I’m doing going to matter in eternity?

That’s it! All these things that catch my attention and all these things I worry and fret over, money included, what is the true value of it?

Matthew West has a song on his latest CD called Light of Eternity and it talks about holding all of this stuff up in the light of eternity and that song has really stuck in my head lately.

Is what I’m doing matter in the light of eternity?

Not always, that’s for sure, but it’s getting better. I can’t do it without God, though.

Our study tonight is starting at Genesis 1:1 and we are going to do a verse study through the Bible, it oughta be fun…….ok no verse study. We are starting at the beginning and study creation a little, God made it all and He created us in His image, but that sure is easy to forget. Then we’ll be looking at a few chapters in Matthew.

I’m ready…well, I’m ready to allow God to speak to us tonight. It’s a conscious effort to give it all up to God, that’s for sure.

I’ll post more detail on our study tonight, if anyone is interested. Let me know.

Update: Awesome study! God really spoke to us. This is not a quick fix, this is a process of changing our perspective of viewing our actions and our life in the light of eternity. Good stuff!
