Net Bible for your handheld
Posted on November 16, 2005
A few days ago, I wrote about the NET Bible, touting it’s 1st version since coming out of beta. I also mentioned that there is a version for Palm pilots(other handhelds, as well). I said that because it is on my Palm and I have had it there for a few years, not because I saw it still listed on their site.
Well, Jason, of Bnpositive’s blog called me on it, in a comment. He wondered how he could get his hands on it and upon further investigation, I discovered, at that time, it wasn’t listed on their site. My bad. Now it is and here’s the scoop on it, Jason. Click here to go to their site and purchase the NET Bible for your Palm, Pocket PC or Blackberry. Granted, in my last post, I really pushed the freeness of the NET Bible and their new approach to copyright, with the underlying theme of getting this version of the Bible distributed as easily and hassle free as possible, without padding the publisher’s pockets and for nearly every soft copy of this Bible, it’s free, but for the hard copy and the handheld version, there is a cost, and that’s understandable.
The handheld version is $24.95 to order the CD or $19.95 to simply download. Back when I got mine, I ordered the CD and I think I’m on my 3rd palm pilot since then and have easily loaded it each time. Nowadays, most of us have CD burners and you could save 5 bucks and burn your own CD.
You will need the free reader, which comes from Olive Tree, just go there and you can download the one for your type of handheld. Also, at that site, you can download a variety of different versions of the Bible, concordances, commentaries etc., some are free and some are for sale. The reader supports multiple versions, so you can load different versions of the Bible and any other study material and jump around on your handheld. It’s very cool, I highly recommend it.
You can do a lot for free and get a lot of benefit, but if you’re motivated to blow some of your hard earned money, buy the NET Bible for your handheld. It’s alot easier to carry into church on Sunday morning than a regular sized Bible, plus you can carry it with you everywhere else you go.

But be warned, if both you and your spouse pull out your PDAs and use them to look up scripture and take notes you’re gonna look like geeks. Or, at least that’s what I hear.
I’ve seen people like that, what freaks!
Jim, thank you for your follow-up and clarifying the location and accessibility of the NET bible!
