Firefox 1.5 has just been released. One year after 1.0 came out, which was a full version, non-beta, and over 100,000,000 downloads later, here we are. Time to party in the streets. I would give it some time to ensure that the kinks are worked out and allow some of the plug-ins catch up. Here are some features:
- New "drag and drop" feature for tabbed browsing helps to better organize page viewing.
- Improved pop-up blocker screens users from more unwanted pop-up ads.
- New reference search engine Answers.com is now included in the integrated Search box.
- Improved Live Bookmarks feature enables easier discovery of and subscription to RSS feeds.
- Improved Options interface makes it easier to adjust browser settings.

They did a major push on last minute testing yesterday, so it’ll be interesting to see if most of the kinks have been worked out.
I downloaded it for kicks tonight and no problems so far (in the 30 minutes I’ve had it installed! LOL). A couple of my plugins didn’t work, but the main ones I use (del.icio.us, a web developer toolbar, etc) are fine. I’ll let you know in a few days how it’s going.
Thanks for the announcement! I’m not happy to hear mary’s comment that some plugins won’t work
Have you downloaded 1.5 and taken it for a test drive? What do you think of the new features?
Here are my thoughts . . .
It seems that I remember last time I ‘upgraded’ it was just a fresh install and I had to transfer over all my plug-ins. This time it was a true upgrade and all my plugins (well, the ones that work, anyway) are there.
Personally, I like being able to move the tabs around. (You can do that in Opera, too) Jim told me last night that there was a plug in before that would do that, but I didn’t have it.
I think the popup blocker may be a little better. I was starting to get a lot of pop-ups again (annoying little critters!) I just tried out one page where I got several popups last week and there are no more! Woo Hoo!
The ‘options’ area is a little more user-friendly. They’ve redeisgned it and it makes more sense to me.
Anyway, that’s my 12 hour review.
