Right and Wrong Ways to Podcast

I’m not here to tell you the right and wrong ways to podcast, however I am here to ask for input on how you’re doing it and what works and what does not work. I have a friend… (isn’t that the way these things start out, it’s not me, I’m asking for my friend….) But, in actuality, I’m not looking to start podcasting, but I do seriously have a friend that is going to start and that is why I’m here.

In an effort to help my friend, I want to know what kind of hardware are you using, what kind of software are you using, what techniques work…..that kind of thing. Is it better to be in an actual soundbooth kind of environment or are the results good enough in a typical room? This will be strictly an audio podcast, not video and it will be 2 people talking back and forth, basically, an interview. It is for a specific, non-church related industry, but the basics of podcasting are the same, regardless of the purpose.

So, please share the good, the bad and the ugly, if you have experimented with podcasting or actually done it. I’ll admit my lack of knowledge in this arena. The big question, I think, is does it require special equipment and software?
I tend to assume that, oftentimes, if someone has to ask, then they shouldn’t be doing it, whatever it is, but I don’t usually apply that rule to myself.  I’ll figure it out, I have no doubt, but it’s always good to look to those that have been there and done that. Thanks in advance for any feedback and guidance.

Oddly enough I’ve too started looking into what is need to create a good Podcast. Terry Storch used to have a post that detailed all this setup…but it’s since long gone.

He did post recently about purchasing a new item for Podcasting from M-Audio. I clicked over and they have a Podcast Factory kit for $179 that “includes everything needed” for a quality Podcast. It looks pretty sweet. The only thing so far that it seems to be lacking is independent mic channels to grab feed from 2 separate mics. I’ve not used the product, but it’s certainly got my interest.

Don’t know squat about podcasting, although I may accidentally start doing one soon – who knows? Anyway, Congratulations on hitting 100 FeedBurner Readers!!
