Life is good, once again
Posted on February 1, 2006
Well, for some unexplainable reason, my feeds checked out yesterday. Darrell Jordan e-mailed me last night and asked what was up, we e-mailed a couple times back and forth comparing notes, then David Russell commented a little later this morning offering some insight. So, I promptly e-mailed David and after a couple of e-mails, we decided to get to the bottom of it tonight. We talked, we troubleshooted (troubleshot?) and ended up still having more questions than answers. In the process I did get an education and now I better understand how to force my traffic to go thru Feedburner, which is good. Remember me saying what a numbers freak I am, it’s true, I really am.
David left me with a good start to resolving the issue and I knew if I didn’t figure it out real quick, I would just blow it all away and start over. So, that’s ultimately what I did, and for the record, I now run a nightly cron job to back up my data, so I knew I had all my data, unlike last time, about a month ago. Wordpress is really an easy install and v.2.0.1 is really a nice interface. According to WP blog and echoed by my buddy David:
Wordpress 2.0.1 has corrected 114 bugs from the initial 2.0 release. It’s worth the upgrade from 2.0 and is certainly light years ahead of 1.x.
Download here, by the way. So, I installed the latest version of WP and it is a super simple setup, especially if you pay attetion to what you are doing. About the time I started doing it, my family showed up and I screwed up the first attempt because I wasn’t paying attention. Back to square one, the second attempt took about 10 minutes, literally. I didn’t even have to reload my data….bonus!
As David and I discussed, isn’t the blogosphere cool! I have met some awesome people as a result of my blog. I had no expectations when I started doing this, I was just mainly trying to figure out what this was all about. Now, I have met many people as a result of blogging, thru comments, e-mails, phone calls and a few even in person.
Since the episode about a month ago, losing everything, Mary said she had the template she designed for me, that was now gone, on CD, so tonight, after my install of WP 2.0.1, as a way to celebrate, I installed my original design. Very cool. There’s a ton of templates out there, some very nice, some pretty sucky and I found some good ones and tried a couple of new ones. But it just wasn’t the same and I certainly wasn’t content. So, tonight, I feel like I’m back in my element. New design, actually old design back, but the best part is that it’s mine, designed by my beautiful, geeky wife. I’ve got to tweak the sidebars a little bit, some of the info has changed, plus I want to add some additional details, but that will all come soon. Right now, it’s kinda like a flashback to a former life! (plus the 2 sidebars are not lined up correctly, I’ll fix that soon)
Thank you Darrell, for the information you gave me and your time.
Thank you David, for your insight and time. I appreciated the chance to get to know you and learn from you.
David is unique, but in a good way. He is extremely creative and can do quality graphics, but he also has a ton of technical knowledge and gets into the techy stuff. It’s rare for one person to possess both of these attributes and interests. Usually, tech and artsy don’t co-exist, but David pulls it off, which is very cool. I admire people alot that can do graphics mainly because I have tried and have no skill in that area. I am very thankful to have married a graphics master and I’m glad now to know David a little better.
By the way, I am not sure if my feeds are working or not, Bloglines still shows problems and now there is problems with all of my feeds, but Feedburner indicates that life is good. So I’m going to bed now and will see how it looks in the morning. I’m hoping this post will push the lingering junk out of the way.
Go check out Darrell and David’s blogs, these dudes are both quality, Christian guys and you stand to learn a thing or 2 simply by reading their blogs.

[...] David and I had the chance to talk on the phone one night as he helped me trouble shoot my feeds and it was great to make that connection. It was actually just a few weeks before his move to NCC, and it’s exciting to see how God continues to use him. [...]
