Bouncing Up The List, Thanks To brrreeeport

I’m a few days behind, but I want to join in on the fun. In case you missed it, check out Scoble’s post from a few days ago. In it, he states:

Oh, while we’re talking about blogs similar to mine, I see there was a dustup over on Doc Searls blog (and others) about the fact that the Z list is being kept out of the kingdom by the A list bloggers. I guess by linking to Doc’s blog I’m a gatekeeper and I’m just working to keep the Z list down. Hey, it’s a conspiracy. If we only link to each other you’ll never be able to find any new voices, right?

To disprove that theory, he goes on to say:

Here, let’s play a game. Everyone in the world say “brrreeeport” on your blog and you’ll be listed on this Technorati page automatically. Heh. There are also no pages on the Internet linked to for that term on Google, Yahoo, or MSN.

So, now you too can take down the man! Get your due! Get around the gatekeepers.

He has done some other posts on the topic since then (here and here and here and here), and now WebProWorld says this:

Scoble’s snarky experiment was in response to the notion of the supposed Blog Club, where A-list bloggers only link to each other and thereby keeping lesser-known bloggers out of the loop of recognition in typical Critical Theory style.

Just to clarify, Robert Scoble is considered an A-list blogger and he is officially the “technical evangelist” for Microsoft. (and someone worth reading if you have technical inclinations at all.)

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that typically a good Z-lister is not aspiring to be an A-lister. A quality blog, whether it’s A-list or Z-list comes out of a person’s passion for what they do and it’s evident by the quality of their content.
However, if you have a dream of becoming an A-lister, check this out, again from Scoble- Tips for joining the A list:

Another tip? Make friends with other bloggers. You know, if 15 z-listers link to you, are you a z-lister, or did you just move up to the m-list? Hint: it doesn’t take that many links to be seen as an “authority” on Technorati.

That’s an excellent point and a great way to make friends in the blogosphere, link to others and comment on other blogs.

So, join in the fun if you want to be part of this brrreeeport mania and maybe you can bounce up the list a little bit.

  1. I agree with what you’re saying, perched on your limb :-)

Most people who blog don’t do it to become “famous”. And I think there’s justice somewhere: those who do, don’t last. And those who are passionate, and provide quality, well those end up having a following of loyal readers — maybe not 20000 of them, or even 2000, but it’s not number that count. It’s relationships.

Thanks for the comment, Stephanie! (thanks for joining me out on my limb!) Blogging still fascinates me and it is so cool to be able to interact with people around the corner and around the world. Also, I just read your ‘About’ page and made the connection, I use your tag plugin, it is excellent, very nice!
