Google Desktop 3 Beta Has Arrived

Google Desktop

Google Desktop 3 beta is now available for download:

Read what the Google Enterprise blog says about it here. It might be worth playing with, although I would go slow with it on your network. I may be overly cautious, but I think this tool has potential.

The folks at Gartner have written about this, and we agree with their recommendation: “Enterprises that are not using Google Desktop for Enterprise but are allowing employees to use Google’s desktop search application should start using the enterprise edition immediately and restrict its use accordingly.”

  1. Yea, our IT Security dept. wants to stop people from using this at our company. We are trying to figure out a way to keep people from installing it on their pcs. Any ideas?

Hey Darrell, I was gonna chat at you earlier, I saw you were on but I wasn’t ready to sit down yet.

It looks like the enterprise version offers some control through group policy, might be worth checking into, then you could control what your users are able to do.
