What If…. (continued)

My last post raised the questions about what if churches blogged, what if the church encouraged it’s staff and ministry leaders to blog about their ministries.  What if we, as the church, didn’t worry about letting the world see in and we had the ability to have a 2 way dialogue, wouldn’t that be cool?  I know, some churches already do this, but most do not.  Some don’t want to risk some of their dirt getting out in the open and that’s a whole other can of worms.  A semi-healty church should have nothing to hide.
David Russell commented that many NCC staffers blog and before that comment, I knew of 2 NCC staff blogs, David and Mark, but where are all the other ones?  I’m picking on NCC mainly because I know David and I know he won’t crumble under the pressure.   I also want to issue a challenge because David‘s comment brought to light the exact thought that I had after the last post.  I would love to see a church like NCC create a directory to all of the blogs written by staffers and other ministry leaders and even go as far as integrating that directory into the website.  Now, wouldn’t that be cool?

If I’m trying to learn more about a church, I’m going to learn more by perusing a few blogs than reading some canned information about when and where their Sunday morning services are held.

Beyond that thought alone, churches are known for ripping each other off……in a good way.  If I’m involved in leading a church that’s halfway across the country from NCC and I like alot of what they are doing and want to do some things like them, let me see deeper into the ministry of that church, through their blogs.

What do ya think, David?  Does that make sense or am I just out there on this one?  Can you integrate a directory into your website?  I know you’ve only been there a few weeks, so take your time, but let’s keep pushing to bring blogging into the mainstream.

Maybe to start, you can at least post some links to a few of the other bloggers in your church (or send me some links directly).

One of our worship pastors is just beginning to experiment with blogging. I expect his blog will be replaced several times, but here’s the starting point: http://perimeterchurch.typepad.com/worshipwell

  2. I agree with much of what you are thinking about church blogs. On my blog I have links to the people of my church who are blogging. My blog (as well as our Lead Pastor’s) is also linked on our church website.

I’ve just jumped into the blogging world, and I’m still not sure it’s the right way for me to spending my time. I did a really quick strength-weakness-opportunity-threat analysis which I’d love any input on. What am I missing? Should I blog? How do I overcome the weaknesses and threats?
