Naked Conversations - Brief, Brief Review
Posted on March 5, 2006
In an effort to share some insight from the book, Naked Conversations, I’m going to share a little bit. My disclaimer is this - there is so stinkin’ much information in this book, there is no easy way to do it justice with any kind of simple review.
One interesting part I just read tonight deals with the FUD Barrier. FUD stands for Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt. Scoble and Israel spoke with many corporate managers and the FUD they heard the most about is listed below:
- Negative Comments
- Disclosing Confidential Information
- No ROI
- Loss of Message Control
- Competitive Disadvantages
- Too Much Time - So Few in the Audience
- Employee Misbehavior
There is much detail within each of these points and there are legitimate reasons that each of these should raise FUD, but actually these can each be overcome. In fact, in the very next section, after these points, it says, ultimately, culture decides, meaning that the culture of the organization decides if blogging is right or not. Another random thought, don’t blog if you are dull. Also, don’t blog if you are not happy in your job, but remember, the focus of the book is business blogging. There are many out there who are not happy in their jobs but still blogging about other things they are passionate about.
I want to be careful to not butcher what is being expressed thru this book, so I won’t say much more.  I will share some with you, Clif, when I see you on Wednesday, if you want. This book has so much good stuff in it, it’s very insightful.
