Observations and Lessons Learned

It seems that there are many people looking for a new church. It’s wild, for the past month or more, that has become a regular conversation. It’s true that I am in the process of changing churches, but I don’t go around talking about it to everyone I see or meet. We have slowly decided to make a change because we feel like God is leading us to something new. I hear similar stories from many people that I come in contact with, both on the web and in real life, not just one or two but time and time again.

Be careful what you write. The written word can be taken by others in ways you never intended. I have been aware of this, but yesterday, I got sucked into a flame war, in comments on another blog. I’m not going to mention the blog because I refuse to bad mouth anyone, even if they continue to press their issues and even if they prove the point that they are bad, stupid and moronic. The blog itself is a quality blog and written by a pastor and it has become one of my favorites. It’s also not one that you have seen, probably, but this guy continually challenges my thinking and stretches me. His blog is not the issue, by the way. He wrote yesterday about some frustrations about the narrow views of some blogs and websites. I commented to encourage him and made the point that I have had to become very discerning in sites I visit and read. Something that I was unaware of was brewing on the side and another blogger jumped all over this post and bashed me in the process. I was ticked. So I clarified my point, stating it was not a personal attack on this other defensive blogger but a general comment on the state of the web. Sheesh, get over yourself, not every thing that everyone says is about you. The original poster and I had a good laugh about it after the fact and were amazed over what happened. (NOTE: Anything I have just said is probably not about you personally.)

I’m a novice when it comes to flame wars. I understand that there is probably more bad than good on the web, but there is enough good to make it worthwhile, in my opinion. Basically, if attacked, I’ll stand up for myself, then walk away.

I’m busy lately. Although, I look around and wonder what am I so busy with. I’m busier than I have been in awhile at work. I’m also just now starting a couple of new projects on my own that I’m anxious to get going on.

Spring doesn’t mean warmer weather. Usually, about the time spring gets here, it gets colder. We have had a weak, warm winter and now today it is cold and snowing. Go figure!

My future is uncertain. My ultimate future is secure, but my immediate future is out of my hands. It’s no different than it ever has been, but the fact that I let it go and look to God for where I’m going, instead of rely on myself is different. It’s easy to talk the talk but to live it takes it to an entirely new level.

Star Wars IV, V and VI (Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi) make a lot more sense when you have seen Star Wars I, II and III. We have been on a Star Wars marathon lately, we have seen the original movies years ago, (IV, V, VI) but still had not seen the new ones. Over the last 2 weeks or so, we have seen I, II, III and last night I rented IV and alot of questions are answered and things make more sense now that we know the back story.

I have not had much to say lately. I feel brain dead when it comes to blogging, I’ve got things to say, I even have several posts started and even finished, yet I just can’t move on them. It’s hard to explain, but I decided doing this, a bunch of randomness, was better than nothing.

Thursday is a hard day. Most of the week behind us, still have Friday to get through. I’m taking Monday off, that’s for sure. I haven’t told my boss yet but I figure I’ll need to use Monday to recover. We are going to KC again this weekend and we’ll probably be home late Sunday.

All of my del.icio.us links are picked up by my feed, yet don’t show on my blog. I started this cool thing where everything I added to del.icio.us would be posted on my blog awhile back. Well, it didn’t take long for that to become annoying, so I went into del.icio.us and deleted that process. Now, the links don’t hit my blog but it shows up in the feed. I stopped adding things to del.icio.us because of that but sometimes I gotta do it. Anyone know how to stop this?

There’s alot more random things in my head.  Maybe I should do this occassionally, just to unload.  What do you think?  Is this halfway interesting or does it bore you to tears?

Yes, this is halfway interesting. ;)

I have been involved in a flame war or two, and what I have learned is that there are people out there in the world that have so much time on their hands that you will never get the last word. No matter how much you try to explain that you are talking in general terms, somebody somewhere will take it quite personally, and they are happy to tell you so.
