Pray For Technology…In Action

About 2 weeks ago, I posted this, raising the question of why don’t we pray for our technology. I think it’s a valid question and something that we need to take seriously, and I have never seen anyone do that. The point is that when there are technical difficulties, worship may be interrupted, or a whole myriad of other things.

So tonight, I’m sitting in church and we are singing, the band is playing and life is good. Then about the time the third song started, some serious feedback erupted. This went on for about 20 seconds, which was longer than I thought it should have, but the problem was resolved. We started the song over and life was good again. When that song was finished, the leader stopped and started praying and you know what he prayed? To summarize, he prayed this:

Lord, we pray for our electronics and ask that you would keep things running smoothly.

YEAH!!!! Although I just stood there during the prayer and after, inside, I was cheering and jumping up and down. That was awesome. That is exactly what I’m talking about. The sound equipment, the guitars, the keyboard, the amps, the monitors, the mains and everything else are tools for ministry. They are tools to draw us into worship and satan can interfere in many different ways and on many different levels to distract us.

This is a church that we have only been to a few times, so at this point, I’m not involved with technology there at all yet, but I’m about ready to jump in and help where I can. Everytime I have been there, all 3 times, I think, they have displayed on the screen before the service that there are ministry opportunities in sound and multi-media. So, one of these days, I’ll see what I can do.

That’s a great point. It makes me think of the times we, as a staff, have prayed over the seats and the people that will occupy them. I wonder how many pray over the sound controls, the band equipment, the monitors on the stage.

As I work with technology in our church, I know that the servers and phone systems receive prayers whenever they go out, but I’m not sure about other times. I’ll admit I usually have harsh thoughts rather than prayerful ones when my computer requires a reboot. There’s no reason I shouldn’t include all of those systems in my prayers as well, as they are tools to ministry.

  2. I have actually prayed in the past for servers that have failed to be restored. And, He answered with a restored machine that lasted another two weeks, until we could get a new machine to replace it ready. God is awesome, prayers for the equipment to glorify are answered, and it helps to build our faith!
