Google Calendar Website Integration

Posted on April 25, 2006

I want to be sure to bring Tyler’s comments to the surface here, as they add some real value to shedding some light on the Google Calendar functionality. I have to first of all apologize to Tyler, somehow, I wasn’t aware that his latest comment was being held in moderation, I didn’t get the usual e-mail. Plus I don’t know why it was moderated anyways. So, sorry about that, your comments are all posted now!

First, I want to clarify something I said in my last post on Google Calendar, I suggested that the functionality is something that may benefit churches, things like sharing, overlaying multiple calendars and that kind of thing. If you are a mid-size or large church, I wasn’t talking to you because generally large churches have their networks established and Exchange server and Outlook and all of that. What I was referring to was that small churches could benefit from this functionality. (This is a rare occassion when I wish all of y’all could read my mind, because I knew what I was thinking!) I stand by the original statement I made, I just need to clarify the context. Small churches, that don’t have a room full of servers, routers, network and all of that, really could benefit from the Google Calendar functionality.

Now, on to Tyler’s comments:

Just another thought about website integration, check out this. The page has the code you need to add a calendar function to a site too.

He also shares this quote:

“I have tested the script with Firefox 1.5.0.2 and IE7, it should work also without problems on other browsers. [With] a small XML feature and you are open to the world, just use your imagination to personalize the css and find how you can use your calendar.”

Thanks Tyler! Sorry for my oversight, I do appreciate the additional info.
