This Little Light of Mine

Remember the song that we sang as kids that starts like this:

This little light of mine…

Is it running thru your mind now? It’s been on my mind lately, it’s such a simple concept.

This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine

What’s next? Remember?

Hide it under a bushel, no! I’m gonna let it shine

So what? It’s some kid’s song, right? Well, yes, but I think it still applies.

The third verse in the Bible says this:

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.

Luke 8:16 says:

“No one lights a lamp and hides it in a jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, he puts it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light.

Light is pretty important in the Bible, there are over 200 verses that reference light and most, if not all of them refer to Jesus or God being light.

In John 9:5, Jesus says:

While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

Psalms 18:28 says:

You, O Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.

It is so easy to let the darkness of this world overtake us and it seems easy to throw in the towel. I know I have felt that way and probably will again. But the truth is, Christ has won this battle.

Don’t forget the last verse of the song:

Don’t let satan [blow] it out, I’m gonna let it shine.

Is it really just a kid’s song or does it still apply? As much as I’ve had this song in my head lately, it seems pretty relevant! The ironic thing is, I don’t even think my kids have ever heard this song.

Christ won the victory on the cross, but satan is still busy trying to blow out our candles. What a jerk!

    I love that song!

We can’t ever take a break keeping Satan from blowing it out.
He never takes a break! The cool thing is,
we have the power and authority through the Name of Jesus
to stop him in his tracks!
