eBible Review

Now, it’s time for my much anticipated review of eBible. It is a great interface and easy to navigate. It currently includes the following versions:

  • King James
  • New King James
  • The Message
  • New Century
  • English Standard
  • New American Standard

I also have 19 books on my bookshelf, which include the above 6 versions and also dictionaries, commentaries and encyclopedias, although 7 of the remaining 13 resources are to be purchased. You can either purchase the hardcopy of that resource or the eBible version, but honestly, the free resources provide a lot of study material.

If you have hung around here long enough, you have heard me go on endlessly about my fascination with tags and tagging, so probably part of the reason I like eBible so much is that it lets you tag scripture any way you want to. You can tag a verse, several verses or even an entire chapter. I haven’t tried to tag a book, but maybe you can do that too, if you want to.

You can then view your own tag cloud and also view everyone’s tags, so it really gets into the sharing of information and community building and that’s part of what web 2.0 is all about.

It is still in beta, so don’t expect a fully polished, bug free site, but know that it is a unique site that offers a lot of useful material and it will grow and mature to be even better and more useful.
Also, it’s still by invite only, so here’s the suggestion from their site:

We are currently running an invitation-only beta and are having trouble keeping up with the demand. You can either:

  1. Sign up below* to wait in line until we let more people in
  2. Suck up to one of the current beta users for an invite (hint – search for blog entries)
  3. Wait until we are ready to open the doors to everyone

My first attempt at passing along invites turned messy because I couldn’t keep up with who was next and not everyone played along by passing an invite on to the next person. Then, considering the lessons learned from that fiasco, I did it again, still optimistic that it would go well, and ended up with a similar, unorganized mess. I’m still trying to pass invites out, as I get them, but, as always, there is no guarantee here. I strongly recommend doing one of the 3 suggestions above if you want to be invited.

So, I give eBible a big thumbs up. Also, be sure to check out their blog for important news and updates.

My list of great Bible study tools on the web is at The Best Bible Study Tools on the Web

But none have your beloved tags I’m afraid.

Your readers should know that Biblegateway.com is better than ever. They now have the TNIV (2005), ESV (2001), NLT (2004), NASB (1995), HCSB (2003), The Message (2002), CEV (1995), and the NIrV (1998). You can look up five versions of a passage at a time and view them side by side.
