Coincidence…..Or Not? You Decide

Posted on July 19, 2006

Today was an interesting day for my geeky wife.  She got a call from a friend saying that a site that she designed and that we host, had been hacked.  She was on her way to a friend’s house for Bible study, so when she got there she jumped online and took the index page down, quick fix to get by for a few hours.
Coincidentally, she had contacted the web host today, prior to the attack and requested to upgrade our hosting account so we could have more space.  By the time she got home, the hosting company had taken care of her request….by totally shutting her down.  That means that not only her site was offline, but every site she hosts is offline, including this one!  Apparently, there was a glitch in their system that took us down. Translation: someone messed up.

That took a couple of hours and several phone calls to get resolved, but in the end, it’s almost a non-issue.  All of the sites affected were restored from the previous night’s backup and life is good again.

Oh yeah, the site that was hacked today, was fixed, since it was restored from the previous day’s backup.   Great timing on everyone’s part!
