Arena Scoop…..From The Source

Posted on August 15, 2006 by Jim Walton

Jon Edmiston recently compiled a list of Arena’s features on his blog.

What is Arena, you ask, and who is Jon Edmiston?

Jon is the Director of IT at Christ’s Church of the Valley and Arena is the name that Shelby has given the product that they just purchased from CCV. CCV took it on themselves to develop a fairly robust application that does quite a bit of ChMS stuff. Click here to read his list and click here to count the days till you can get your hands on it.

UPDATE: Here’s a link to David Turner’s latest post, he is the Sr. Developer at CCV and was heavily involved in the development of Arena. In this post, he discusses the Person Detail page and shows a screen shot.

To that end, very little on this page is hard-coded. Arena uses a concept called “Person Attributes” which are defined through the Administrative area of Arena. Person Attributes allow you to define an unlimited amount of information that you want to collect about each person. For each attribute, you decide if it is a date, integer, decimal, currency, string, boolean, or even a table lookup, if it is read-only, or always required. Once you’ve defined the attributes, you group them into attribute groups and define where on the Person Detail screen you’d like them displayed. You can also set security on each attribute and/or attribute group to restrict access.

He goes into alot of detail, so go check out both David and Jon’s posts.

    Jim,
I looked over those sites yesterday, and didn’t find an answer to this question. Perhaps you know. How is this software to be licensed: shareware, open source, commercial, or other?

    Thanks,
    Clint

    Clint,
It is a commercial application that is now owned by Shelby. It will be part of their own software package, so churches will need to purchase it.
