Multimedia Resources

Posted on August 22, 2006 by Jim Walton

Well, I went to Promise Keepers in Kansas City last weekend and it was great to get away. I have been the past 3 years and was not planning on going this year, due to my hectic schedule and because my church wasn’t officially going, but the night before, I kind of fell into a ticket. So, I went with a group of guys from a friend’s church and we all had a good time. I knew Clif would be there but I was surprised to see him, that was very cool. Out of all those thousands of men, it’s amazing that I ran into a couple of guys I know.

Then, I have been pretty much out of commission since Sunday afternoon with some health issues. I’ve had many tests run and some serious things have been ruled out but a definite diagnosis has not been reached. So, I’ll be going to the doctor again, probably tomorrow, to hopefully get to the bottom of this. I have literally been in bed the last 2 days except for work, as soon as I get home from work, I drop into bed. Tonight I have more energy, which is a good feeling. I really don’t have time for this, that’s why I’m pushing thru work, to get things done.

Anyway, since I haven’t posted since last week, I thought I better do something. Here’s a couple of things to chew on.

It seems that many churches are becoming more aware of multimedia and wanting to dive in, so to help in this, here are some sites that regularly post about big things that other churches are doing, as well as valuable resources for the church.

  • Churchonomics – formerly known as non-blog Brad has turned into a decent blogger, NBB is growing up
  • ChurchRelevance – Kent Shaffer provides many good resources
  • Church Video Ideas – I know I just mentioned Greg, but if you haven’t checked him out, go now and do it, he’s a big dawg in church video and multimedia

The second thing I want to mention is this. I got an email today from someone and I was able to help a little bit but I wanted to throw the question out here. Here is part of the email and I think it’s enough to give a good idea of what he’s after.

I would LOVE to do or show something engaging that makes use of our AV equipment, perhaps a short funny or interesting video? Do you happen to know of any available clips/videos that I could show? Perhaps one highlighting technology at church, shows how simple it can be, or even just something even
somewhat related to church AV? Something funny that would help lead into something a discussion our our AV ministry would work as well? If not, any other creative ideas you might have would be appreciated. I love your blog!

If you know of a generic video highlighting church A/V multimedia type stuff, comment here. I think that would be a great resource to have. If someone wants to create it and pass it along, that would be very cool, I might even post it as a link on this site.

I especially liked the last line in his email. :)

I would have to search the MXC at Churchmedia.net but there is probably something already in there about what you are looking for. Churchmedia.net’s forum is free, but the MXC is part of the Pro side which is a yearly fee but well worth it. The MXC is a huge resource for church backgrounds and videos.

Thanks for the link! You actually still read my blog. I figured after all the trouble I give you that I was cut months ago.

Promise Keepers is great. I have not been in a couple years but I have been to Louisville and St.Louis in the past.
