Leadership Institute Bound

Posted on October 4, 2006 by Jim Walton

Tomorrow morning, I’m heading to Kansas City to attend The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Leadership Institute. This looks to be a good conference. Brian McLaren will be speaking Friday night on Re-centering in the American Church.
On the technical side, Mark Stephenson of Web-Empowered Church will be speaking at a couple of sessions and Clif Guy will lead an IT panel discussion where we will discuss church IT issues and probably get a glimpse at how they manage their large network, multiple servers, and probably virtualization, ChMS and other relevant, church IT issues. There are other speakers too, this is a sample.

Since I do contract work for COR, Clif has invited me to join his team at the conference this week. I am excited to be included and I am looking forward to being there. It will be fun to hang out with the team and take in alot of information.

The majority of the work I do with Clif is done remotely, from the comfort of my home, generally at odd hours of the night and I am making an effort to be on-site a little more often, which really makes a difference for connecting with Clif’s team. There are just are not many of them, but they do a ton of work keeping up with everything technical at Church of the Resurrection.  It’s pretty amazing really, and I’m honored to be a part of that.
I don’t know if I’ll blog while I’m there or not, but I’m sure I’ll have some thoughts after the fact.

Try to take detailed notes like the Perimeter team … it’s interesting to see what church IT people yak about.

Please do take notes, it would be good to hear what folks are doing and at some point get there myself to listen and network.
