To Blog Or Not To Blog
Posted on October 4, 2006
Have you thought about starting a blog? Is there an appeal there? What’s holding you back? Just do it! Well, maybe there’s a little more to it. Maybe not.
If you are an expert in a certain area, maybe blogging is for you, so you can share your vast knowledge and wisdom with the rest of us.
If you are associated with a certain group, such as a church or non-profit organization or business, maybe blogging is for you, so you can give others an inside look into your organization.
If you know nothing about something and want to learn more about it, maybe blogging is for you, so you can learn from others.
If you are [fill in the blank], maybe blogging is for you, so you can [fill in the blank].
I started blogging almost 2 years ago because I knew practically nothing about technology in the church and wanted to learn more. I was far from being an expert and probably still am far from that, I’m learning more all the time.
Clint gives 2 quick and dirty steps for blog writing
#1) Sit down (preferably at a computer)
#2) Write
He goes on to say:
I wish it were so simple. Actually… maybe it is.
Good points. If that’s not enough, Cynthia gives 40 Reasons to Blog that is very thorough and covers many of the reasons that I started, if I were to think it through and detail it. This is very much worth checking out. In the end, she adds these pointers:
When in doubt, follow this simple guideline: blog with either a point, a purpose, a passion or all three.
That’s it and a rule I probably need to follow more closely. In summary, let’s morph together the above points:
- Sit down
- Write with either a point, a purpose, a passion or all three
Honestly, you need to blog for yourself, don’t do it for anything else or anyone else and do it your way.
I just realized something. Clint’s blog, The Wilderness, is the first blog that caught my attention over 2 years ago and it’s the blog that I consider to be the reason I started blogging. Cynthia’s blog, The Digital Sanctuary, is the latest blog I have come across, and her blog has definitely caught my attention recently, it is well worth checking out.

Jim,
Like all of the things that the Lord leads us into, it’s been an adventure and filled with many pleasant surprises. You know, like meeting blogging pioneers like you!
Thanks for the blogging encouragement. I didn’t include my 41st reason to blog, so I’ll mention it here: because God told me to. Really, it’s been a point of obedience.
Challenged daily,
Cynthia
