If you were at the COR LI IT Panel Discussion, then keep checking back here. Some of us were talking afterwards and would like to keep the discussion going, as well as leave things open for future interaction. Most everyone, it seems, came from a one person IT shop, or even a no person IT shop. Clif and I would like to keep the conversation going and even be available to you, to offer insight or whatever you need.
I have a real heart for those of you doing this ministry all on your own, that is exactly the environment I came from. We are not sure how this will evolve but it might just be that we are available to answer questions or reassure that you are heading in the right direction. If one of you has an issue, it’s probably worth Clif and/or I posting about it to share with the rest of you and get responses from many others. One thing we definitely want to do is be able to tailor the event(s) for next year’s Leadership Institute to specifically meet your needs and make it even better.
Stay tuned here and at Appian Way to see how this progresses. Feel free to comment on this post or any other one, I would love to hear from you.
I like the idea of helping the no person and one person shops, especially when the ideas are flowing, but you have no place to share or use those ideas.
I think there is a need for smaller Church locations to use tech, but can not afford the services of a larger IT outfit.

Scott,
I can tell you that the challenge we have every year is providing beneficial information for the no one, and one shop churches. I think every church knows what its priorities are, and it is often not dumping money into technology. Because, of course, the reason churches exist is so we have a cool place to try out new PDA’s and dual-core processors right?.
NOT!
My heart, and where God is calling me right now, is in helping the average church understand the benefit of technology. That is not saying technology solves all problems for every church, because it obviously does not. What I believe strongly is that for those churches that are in the right place to take advantage of some technologies, God’s Kingdom can benefit greatly. Funding for technology and having the will to use it are certainly different challenges.
I have been wondering how to assist those churches on the tipping point of using technology in hugely beneficial ways. Would a conference with the right focus, for the right churches help? Is there a way to leverage the Internet to disseminate how to start using technology in church? This is what my spare processing time is spent on nowadays.
We all seem to have a desire to help other churches … problem is how to best do that
given our time and resources.
That’s the main reason many of us started blogging … to try and share what we’ve learned
for others to glean from. It’s also the reason the IT Roundtable took place recently.
Tony Dye and I have been kicking around some ideas that will hopefully take off in the near
future to create some more resources in the area of church IT … stay tuned!
