Skype Out Is Going Up

Posted on January 31, 2007 by Jim Walton

Skype Through today, January 31st, you can purchase Skype Out for $14.95, tomorrow the price doubles. Skype Out allows you to make unlimited outbound calls from your computer to any landline or cell phone. I had been meaning to take advantage of this, and probably would have forgotten, had it not been for David’s post. Thanks, man!

I’m in. I also went ahead and bit the bullet and picked up a Skype In number. This means that you can call me, through my computer, from any landline or cell phone. That, however, is a little more pricey, but still pretty reasonable, $38.95 for a year. If you think about it, that’s a great deal. We bought a Skype In number a few months ago, before that price went up. We paid $30 at that time or maybe even a little less.

By the way, in geek speak, Skype is ‘voice over IP’ or VOIP.  So, if you want to sound  cool,  you can drop that term in conversations and sound like you know what you’re talking about. (I do stuff like that all the time! :)   )Skype phone

If you have Skype, add me, if you want.

My Skype name is churchtechmatters. (pretty creative, eh?)

My new Skype In number is 417-429-0825.

Skype is really growing on me lately, it is a great thing. I even picked up a Skype phone a couple months ago, out of necessity. It’s a wired phone, connects via USB and it works pretty well, eh? I used it from my hotel room in Canada a couple of months ago and it did fine, plus I think it will do even better from my own broadband network, as opposed to a shared hotel network.

Hey J.C., I’ve got it connected now, so you can give me a shout and I’ll be able to answer, if we can sync up our schedules. (For awhile, I misplaced it and couldn’t really answer Skype calls, now I’m set)

I considered buying into Skype – I used Skype out a lot when it was free. I even have a USB Skype aware phone that works suite. I decided against using it because of the sound quality – still seemed to lag and sometimes would have a echo problem. I will still use it for Skype-to-Skype calls but I don’t think I want to spend any money on it right now – especially when I have a flat fee long distance plan that covers all the calls I ever want to make…
