I have been thinking real hard for the last year or so about creating a wiki. What’s a wiki? According to wikipedia:
A wiki (IPA: [ˈwɪ.kiË] <WICK-ee> or [ˈwiË.kiË] <WEE-kee>[1]) is a website that allows the visitors themselves to easily add, remove, and otherwise edit and change available content, typically without the need for registration. This ease of interaction and operation makes a wiki an effective tool for mass collaborative authoring.
There are many options for a wiki platform and most are at least slightly involved, including a significant learning curve. I don’t have the time or energy or patience to pull off something using one of the more well known wikis, that I could host on my server and that’s exactly why I haven’t done anything yet. Probably 6 months ago, I came across pbwiki and I was really impressed. I was able to create pages, add content, links and everything and it was super simple. The downside – it has ads that are out of my control. That fact alone caused me to not even consider it. Case closed. (the thing that impressed me was I found pbwiki and played with it a little bit, then literally, a week or so later, I saw that Scoble had found it. I think that’s the first time that I have found something cool that he hadn’t found yet. Of course, he still got me, he blogged about it, I didn’t!)
Now, here I am, still really wanting a wiki of my very own, so tonight I revisited pbwiki and the bottomline is, go here to see my wiki. There are still ads on there that are out of my control, but let’s give it a shot.
This is not my wiki, it’s our wiki. I expect you to contribute to the CTM wiki. Let’s be honest here, I don’t know as much alone as all of us know together. Together, we can build a site that reflects our combined knowledge on many different things.
The flagship topic is Worship Presentation Software. This has been one of the most popular things I’ve ever covered and I created a resource page here, based on the many comments from this post. The problem, in it’s current state, the page cannot evolve, it can only be updated by me. The wiki, however, can be edited by anyone, so you can add your experiences and knowledge about many different software packages and if there’s one that’s missing, just add it.
I still want to have a wiki that is more under my control, as far as advertising and also one that resides on my server, but this is a place to start.
So, check it out, learn your way around, provide your wisdom and experience so that this can be a tool that benefits many others.
What other topics would be good to address with a wiki?
I went and had a quick peek at your Wiki – I love the topic! I have been dealing with Worship and projection for years and would love to follow along with this wiki.
I was going to contribute to your presentation software page but was unable to locate the password anywhere – not sure if you are making that public or not. The addition:
