Windows HomeServer preparations
Posted on March 18, 2007
As I have mentioned recently, I’m getting ready to install the beta version of Windows HomeServer. However, there are many steps I need to go through to prepare for this. First, let’s review the hardware. 1ghz AMD processor, 512mb memory, 6gb hard drive, 160gb hard drive. Windows 2000 Pro. I used to build every computer I ever owned and this is the last one that I built that is still fully functional.
So, I’ve realized lately that this machine is kind of sentimental to me, if that ma
kes sense. We have more computers in our house than most people I know (with more on the way), yet I’m doing all I can to keep this old PC alive. It’s the last computer I built for myself and I think Windows HomeServer is a great next step for it, since it’s still a very stable machine. As I shared earlier, this machine has affectionately been named PeaceOut and my youngest daughter uses it primarily. I’m going to be shifting computers around and potentially everyone in the family will have a different computer. I’ll share more on that later, for now, here’s where I’m at in the home server process.
I downloaded the iso file for Windows HomeServer a couple of weeks ago from Microsoft and realized it was a DVD, so my first step was to upgrade PeaceOut. I picked up a DVD drive on eBay for about $25, total, including shipping. It was an easy install last week. I also burned the iso image to a DVD so it’s ready to go. So, things are progressing nicely. More later. Enjoy the pics!
