Last weekend, the youth at my church took part in something called Discipleship Now 2007. It was an event for multiple churches, hosted at my church and included a video service-project scavenger hunt. My role was to take about 20 video cameras and complile a single 15-20 minute video in about 3 hours. Mary and i agreed to do this and I said up front that was really pushing it, timewise, but we would give it our best shot.
We showed up at church at about 3:00 in the afternoon and the cameras started rolling in about 3:30. The obvious choice for downloading video to the computer is firewire, but it didn’t take long to realize that firewire was not enough, some older cameras used s-video and even RCA.
Honestly, I think the best thing about my church is that it’s right across the street from Radio Shack. So, it was a quick trip across the street to buy a couple of adaptors.
It took us from 3:30 until about 6:30 to pull clips from each camera and compile them all together into a single video. Then it took from 6:30 until about 7:05 to render the video and fortunately, they didn’t get into dinner until about 7:00, so the timing was about right. The video ran during dinner and the kids had fun seeing the highlights of their weekend.
We used VideoStudio 10 plus, which is a great program and I am getting more familiar with it all the time. Later Saturday night, Mary condensed the video down to 2-3 minutes to run during the 2 services Sunday morning.
There was one clip that was classic, in a big way. As soon as I get permission to run it on here, I will.
