PC Workshop – Fairview Christian Church – July 14, 2007

The next PC workshop scheduled at my own church, Fairview Christian Church, in Carthage, MO on July 14. This will be the second one I have done, the first one was at a friend’s church, in a nearby town, with the followup post here.

I can see doing this kind of thing regularly at several different area churches, but it’s a big deal to do it at my own church. To me, these are not strangers, these are people I know and people I serve with, although, there are still many people I don’t know, so maybe this will be a chance to meet some more people. I am excited to have this opportunity at my own church.

As of this morning, I’ve got 2 people from church committed to help and a possible 3rd, plus Bryson. So, if you’re in the area on July 14 from 9-noon, come on by, enter through the south entrance and we will be in the conference room.

I have asked everyone to bring any extra monitors, keyboards, mice, power cords, and surge protectors.

Mary has designed a t-shirt that I’ll order from CafePress for us geeks that are serving, however, if I get many more commitments, I may have to consider alternatives for funding the shirts! I wanted to just cover the cost myself, but we’ll see. We could buy cheap shirts and iron on the design but CafePress is so much better, all the way around. I’m still having her tweak the design and I’ll post it on here when it’s final.

Something we did was put an insert in the bulletin last week with full details and this week it was listed in the bulletin as an upcoming event. I’m sure it will be in there next week, as well and this week, I’ll add it to the local Christian radio station’s community calendar that is on their website and they announce events regularly.

Here’s what the initial insert looked like:

PC Workshop
July 14, 2007
Fairview Christian Church
Brought to you by the Technology Ministry of Fairview Christian Church

9am-12pm

If your computer is:

  • Running slow
  • Locking up
  • Having random errors
  • Shutting down

we can help.

Also, if you have purchased:

  • a new hard drive
  • a new CD drive

we can help.

This ministry is for church members and our friends and neighbors. Use this opportunity to allow us to minister and reach out to your friends and neighbors by bringing them in with their computers that need attention. We will not be preaching to anyone or questioning why someone has not been in church for ages, we will simply be serving them by looking at their computer and building relationships with our community.

There is no guarantee that we will fix your computer but in most cases we can.

If you are somewhat technically inclined and would like to help, please call Jim Walton @ 417-483-5901.

what a great idea. I would love to replicate this at my church. Can you share what type of software or application resources you arm yourself with?
