Catalyst On The Horizon
Posted on July 9, 2007
This is one side of a story, told by 2 people, who have never actually met, about an event taking place in 3 months. To read the other side, click here.
I have had an interesting last couple of weeks and I will be sharing more about that soon. For now, I am just going to make light of a particular event that occurred. I have met many people through this blog and when I say ‘met’, that ranges from someone leaving a comment to email to IM on GTalk or Skype or talking on the phone or even meeting IRL. (in real life for you non-savvy types……I just learned what that means recently, by the way.)
It truly boggles my mind the things that have come my way as a result of this blog, God is good, that’s for sure. Mostly what I have gained is friendships and guidance and wisdom from those who have done what I am trying to do, plus being allowed to share some of the knowledge that I have gained in this journey. On occasion though, I gain things that are tangible beyond what I would ever expect or imagine.
Someone I have gotten to know is a guy I first knew only as HowlerGeek a.k.a Wayne James, of Real Life Tech Edition fame. One day, recently, we were chatting online and he said:
What would God have to do to get you (and Mary) to Catalyst?
Now, Catalyst is like the big dawg of conferences for church leaders, at least in my mind, and speakers include Andy Stanley, Craig Groeschel, John Maxwell and many, many more.
From the site:
An event that addresses the unique needs of Next Generation Leaders, their vision, and their unique revolutionary spirit. Three days of inspiring content, powerful worship, and unprecedented experiences.
I told Wayne that mainly God would somehow have to provide a way for us to pay for it if He wanted us to be there, as we don’t have a lot of extra money for trips and events like this. Wayne went on to say:
Well, Elaine and I would like to have the honor of having you (and Mary) as our guests.
To say the least, Mary and I were floored! After praying about it and looking realistically at our schedules, we accepted their generous offer. To say the least, we are really looking forward to attending this conference and spending time getting to know Wayne and Elaine in Atlanta.
I am becoming more involved in some leadership roles in my own church and honestly, I have barely scratched the surface of what needs to be done, so I really see Catalyst as a way to further focus my heart and passion for the church and make me even more effective.
This is fascinating to me on many levels, the way that Wayne and I have made such a connection and now Mary and I have an opportunity to attend an event like Catalyst. It is hard to put into words, but it is truly an honor to be given this opportunity in this way.
It will be fun to see this unfold. Thank you Wayne and Elaine, we are very much looking forward to being there!
