PC Workshop Recap
Posted on July 15, 2007
Today was the second PC workshop and it was at my own church, Fairview Christian Church. This event was well publicized for the last few weeks at church and things went well today. There were 5 of us available to help and as a bonus, I had custom t-shirts made to identify us. Mary designed them and they came out great. We had 3 different families bring PC’s in, but we had at least 6 PC’s, due to people bringing in multiple ones.We brought in 5 monitors, keyboards and mice and just set them up along the wall of the conference room, plus we had the conference table as a work table, for tearing into a tower. I also had more than 5 power cables for the PC’s.
Things went well and we made improvements on most everything we touched, plus we did a lot of talking and getting to know these people. I had such a great team of volunteers and I would say that they did the majority of the work, I circulated the room and kind of filled in the gaps and talked.
We had Mary and I, Bryson from College Heights (who, by the way, came out to help after staying up nearly all night, due to a LAN party in his garage), James, my former neighbor from when we first moved to town, and Donna and everybody seemed to jump in and find their place. It was so much fun to just hang and get to know these people that came in and help them along the way. I think we finished the last computer about 1:30, I wasn’t really paying attention to the time. Then, James, Mary and I sat around talking for at least another 2 hours.
All in all, it was a good day and I think I’ve got a team in place for next time.

So, when is next time? At this point, I’m thinking about 2 months out. That’s a little quicker than I was planning, but I think we will get some buzz from the people that were there and it will put it just after the start of school. Also, there was another idea for ministry that came out of this event and I’ll share more about that once I figure out the details.
It was a great day!

It was fun! Maybe next time you could join us at College Heights?
I would like to! Maybe James will too.
