Busy Weekend Full Of Church Tech
Posted on July 30, 2007
This weekend, I spent nearly all of my time at a church doing something.
Friday night was the conclusion of VBS, there was a performance by the kids and we were able to see what they worked on all week. The children’s pastor issued a challenge to the kids, if they would raise over $1200 last week for a local shelter, he would shave his head. Now Brant has had a nice head of hair, but the kids came through and raised over $1400. So, on stage, Brant had his head shaved by the 5-6th grade girls because they raised the most money. Then, we all went outside and had snowcones and there were some other games, plus a massive slip n slide. It was a blast.
Saturday afternoon I went to my former church to do some setup and training. We started discussing installing KidzPro about a year ago, but it never happened. Then, by year end last year, after being there less than a year, Mary and I felt like God was leading us onto something different and we left the church. That was our rebound church, after a painful separation from our prior church home, we landed there and once we had some down time, we felt like God had something more for us and did He ever! As we were leaving, I told Shannon I still wanted to help him get KidzPro set up.
I got the call last week from him stating he was ready, just in time for VBS. So, I headed over there and got them set up. There were a few bumps in the road but we worked through them and by the time I left, they were entering pre-registrations into the system. This is not the way to go live with a new system, the pressure is on to make it work and I think it will, but we will find out soon enough. I would have rather started with a non big event, like a Wednesday night service, then we would have time to address any bumps in the road, but like I said, we will get through it.
So, VBS starts there tonight and it should be great. Shannon is an ultra creative person and has a real heart for the kids, so we are taking the girls there most nights this week. The theme is Pirates, the battle of the unseen. Oh yeah, the entire stage is a pirate ship, its awesome!
Sunday morning, the 2 services went well, there were some glitches in the multimedia side of things but nothing too major. The sound was a little louder than normal, I think, but hopefully well balanced. Of course our praise band had a different dynamic since our primary worship leader has been out the last 2 weeks. It was a fun morning and every week, I’m learning new things, for sure.
Finally, Sunday afternoon, I was back up at church because we came across 2 additional acoustic panels that needed to be hung. It ended up being much more challenging than I thought it should have been but, we got ‘er done.
I’ll be putting at least one picture up from Friday night that is too classic to pass up, so stay tuned for that. All in all, a great weekend, full of church and tech!
