Latest Dilemma – It’s Really Quite Simple

I have a dilemma. I started this blog 3 years ago with a single purpose in mind, to learn what was going on in the church tech world. I didn’t start writing for the audience or to be known. I wrote because somehow I thought I could glean some info off of someone who knew more than I did about tech in church. (that’s still why I write, in a way) I also didn’t expect the blog to last, it was something fun to try for awhile until I got bored, then I would move on to something else.

Over the years, I have had the opportunity to meet readers on occasion and that has somehow proved to be awkward to me, not so much anymore but it’s still kind of weird. In a way, it’s weird to meet people, period, whether they read my blog or not, but that’s another issue.

Keep in mind that I started this blog when I was the lone tech guy at my fairly large church, yet it was as if my blog didn’t exist there. No one grasped the concept and took it seriously. So, I left the church. Well, not actually for that reason, everyone has their own theory about what led to that, so think what you want to. After that, I went for an entire year of not being connected to a church and somehow continued writing this blog, to people I didn’t know about things I wasn’t doing. (and the number of readers continued to grow.)

In the past year, I have gotten back to normal and plugged in to a new church. Due to my role of being the tech ministry leader, I talk to people all the time about technology in the church and in the process, tell them about my blog. Now, people are coming here and reading and coming back to me and talking about it. That’s weird to me. Even my pastor reads it. Also, my parents read my blog now too and they like it. Of course, what else can they say? :) They even comment on occasion.

So, I’m adjusting to this concept of actually writing to people that I know or that I will know and seeing my blog take on a new dimension. I no longer just write but I get to talk about these things, as well. It kind of takes things to the next level and it is exciting.

If you haven’t met me yet and want to, here’s a tip on how to make it less weird and awkward. Buy me lunch or breakfast or an iPod Touch or the new AT&T Tilt or a Blackberry Curve.

It really is that simple.

  1. Hehehe. I share your sentiments. And while it is that I am *highly* reluctant to be the tech guy when not in work settings (burnout prevention policy), its interesting when people you do know swing through and comment that they’ve gotten something good out of what they’ve read.

Now, about that “how to meet you part,” I like that idea. And honestly, if I had the ability to do so, the gift of tech to you would barely qualify as the thanks you should receive from how much I’ve gotten from just reading your blog.
