Breathing New Life Into CTM

Posted on November 17, 2007 by Jim Walton

Now that we’re into day 4 of being down, things are starting to come together.  At this point, all posts are restored and all comments, which is the bulk of what makes up this site.

I think somehow the database became corrupt and between Mary and I, we have both spent many hours trying to restore things.  The original database has always still been on the server but every time I connected to it, it returned errors.  We even had our host restore a backup and in the end, we had the same errors.  Yesterday, I resolved to restore the posts and everything else one table at a time.   So, here we go!

At this point, I have restored posts and comments and I’ll keep working on it throughout the day.  But, it feels good to be bouncing back and I’ll probably be writing about lessons learned while going through this down time.

I’m going to leave comment moderation on for first time commenters, which at this point, is everyone.  Wanna know why?  In the time it took me to write the first 2 paragraphs above, I had my first comment spam.  I want comments from people and I will approve everyone who is a person and commenting for a legitimate reason.  So, please comment.

Many of you have been very supportive throughout this week and I appreciate that.  There’s more work to do but now we are finally seeing progress.

Thank you for your support!

Good to see you back up and running mi amigo. I especially like the use of those new fancy extra characters in the text! :)

Keep on blogging, man. We need you!

Glad to see you mostly back up! It is all kind of scary. I have only a few months of blogging I’d hate to have to rebuld. You are very lucky like me in that you seem to have a techy wife. It’s always nice to at the very least have someone to empathize. Keep up the great posts. I hope you went ahead and did the latest upgrade of WP while you were at it. It sure would be nice to see what happened, how did the DB get corrupt to start with? Probably never know.

Ach! Despise the technical stuff when things go down. Glad you got it back up. I’m actually on hold with my server tech guys right now with an ongoing issue I can’t seem to get rid of. Ah, but wait… he’s back! Must run.
