Tech Team Strikes Again

Our tech team met again last night and this time, I wanted to meet primarily with the people I have identified as the system administrators. Out of 6 people or so, I chose 2 to be sys admins or network admins or whatever you want to call them. Along with myself, the 3 of us will drive the effort and call the shots for all desktop, server, network and e-mail related tasks.

I intentionally only invited these two so we could begin to establish our roles. As a team, I love what we have started, each of us has different strengths and interests and I am working to push each of them in the direction where they are interested.

I have the most experience in this kind of thing, however we are all learning. Last night, I set Daniel loose on the server to learn more about Active Directory and I opened his eyes to Organizational Units. That’s the kind of thing that I am aware of but have never really done much with and I think Daniel will be the one to master that kind of thing. We are just beginning to tighten things up on our network in many ways and OU’s will play a major part in that.

The other main project last night was to replace our pastor’s computer. His laptop has a nice 2 inch wide black stripe down the side of the monitor so he is going to send it in to be repaired. I told him I would get him set up with a computer to use temporarily, so Donna took the one extra computer we have and cleaned it up and we set it up for him. He is set up now for the 4-6 weeks his laptop will probably be out of commission.

Of course, Rachel was there too and I had her cut our gel sheets to the right size so when we get ready to put them up, they are already cut. In the near future, she wants to learn how to clean spyware and viruses off of computers, so that will be her next task.
