Christmas Eve Videos

Posted on December 27, 2007 by Jim Walton

Last Sunday was extremely busy for me, to say the least. Sunday morning was fairly typical, nothing out of the ordinary, although we didn’t run any videos due to some other extra things going on. After the second service, we ran and ate some Mexican food then I was back at church to prepare for the 2 services on Sunday night. Instead of having Christmas eve services on Christmas eve, we had them on the night before.

I spent a good part of the afternoon getting the lighting just right. One thing I learned was that Christmas trees on stage cast huge shadows on the screens if the right lights are up too bright. So, I played with that for quite awhile. Mary showed back up a couple hours later and we worked on many different things.

Our first service began at 6 and it was geared to kids. It was fun and involved a lot of kids singing as well as Christmas music and it’s focus was on the birth of Christ. The video we chose was called He Came To Get Messy, produced by Brian Christopher Productions. It can be viewed at his site and actually used for free off of YouTube, but I opted to purchase it and download it from SermonSpice, simply because I wanted it to be the best it could be. I didn’t want to risk any network glitches, which may cause problems viewing it directly off of YouTube, plus I think the purchased version is higher resolution. It is a very powerful video.

After the first service, we had a 30 minute intermission with refreshments then we had our candlelight service. It was much more mellow and focused on Christ’s birth, as well. For that service, I chose Be Still (Christmas) produced by SermonVideos.com. It is very simple and powerful and very much set the tone for the celebration of the evening.

It was extremely chaotic leading up to the services but both services went very well, both from a technical standpoint and otherwise. It was incredible to see the entire room stand up in unison, raising their candles. My body was sore after putting in a full day of running around.

On Christmas eve, we decided to head to Tulsa earlier than we had planned, so we visited our former church there, Evergreen Baptist Church, and took part in their candlelight service, which was a lot of fun. It was fun to be back at our old church and see their new building. As a bonus, I thought I would share the video they showed, which was very powerful as well. It was A Christmas Response, produced by Floodgate Productions. Great stuff, plus it was fun to talk with my former pastor and hear how things are going.

We ran into some old friends who had moved away, then moved back after we moved away and the ironic thing was we knew each other from a different church. We changed churches after they left and when they came back, after we moved away, they began attending our old church. So, we had Christmas eve dinner with them and it was fun to catch up. Our oldest kids were babies last time we saw each other, so it’s been 10 years.

For this Sunday, I don’t think there will be a video, but I’ll let you know next week.
