This blog has been in existence for over 3 years and for most of that time, it has been my place to network with church tech people all over the place. In the beginning, it was very much separate from my real world. Over time, I would tell people about it and I would oftentimes get a blank stare, at best. Even people in my own church didn’t get it, but I wasn’t worried about it.
Over the last year, as I started going to a new church and have become involved, my world has changed. Because of my role as Tech Arts Ministry Leader, people have been told about this blog but generally, I get similar reactions, until this past Sunday.
In walks Mike……Mike Brown, that is!
For some odd reason, I invited him and his wife to lunch with us, which is not that unusual, we have done this before. As we were sitting there enjoying our chips and salsa, Mike says ‘Oh, I went to your blog the other day.‘
You did what?!?
Granted, I have met many people as a result of my blog and that in itself is still unusual to me but still, that’s ok. I don’t mind inviting people from my blog world into my real world, that’s cool. But, at that moment, as I bit into my salsa covered chip, my worlds collided.
Now, my real world has crossed over into my blog world. Things will never be the same. But, during this same lunch, I convinced so-called, non-technical Mike to join the tech team. He confirmed to me that I made the right decision to change the name of this ministry to Tech Arts Ministry (site coming soon), because we are starting to do so much more than tech. When he first heard of the tech ministry, he thought it wasn’t for him, but now that he knows that this ministry is starting to create videos and edit them, this caught his attention.
So, Mike and I spent the afternoon editing our man on the street interview that Brett and I shot recently. My video team has grown from 2 to 3 and I’m excited for what lies ahead. We are going to begin shooting a lot of footage and see where it goes.
Welcome to the Tech Arts Ministry, Mike! You have now been given the spotlight and initiated into the club.
Dude, THAT’s awesome! Your blog has not only been informational, but inspirational, and your dedication to bless others is coming back to you.
Surely things are on the rise for you at your church. All you have to do now is keep riding the wave of momentum and see what God does.
Eight years ago, my department didn’t exist. Six years ago, it was me and one other guy, plus about four weekend camera ops. Now, we have four full-timers, about ten camera ops, five lighting ops, and three GREAT audio engineers. We’ve done three CD projects, and launched Crossroads Creative. We produce about 110 videos year, not including our TV program and our regular and special service DVDs.
Ride that wave, bro!
You told me I would get a mention in your blog. You are a man of your word. I look forward to what we are able to do with the tech arts team.
Hey Mike, I totally forgot to mention this tonight, I thought of it after you left. I’m excited about where we are going and I’m glad you are a part of it now.
