Fairview Tech Arts Team Visits LifeChurch.tv…..sort of
Posted on March 26, 2008
I love my team, seriously, I do. We have a great time together and little by little we chip away at things. We meet every Tuesday evening and honestly, at first I said we would meet once, maybe twice a month because I didn’t know people would be so into serving this way. We have met every week since we started, I think, mainly because that’s what the people want. Next Tuesday will be our first night off because Mike and I will be getting ready to head out to MinistryTECH/CITRT.
Yesterday, I heard that LifeChurch.tv would be re-broadcasting their Easter Sunday service last night at 8pm. We meet from 7-9 or so and I thought that would be a perfect opportunity to check it out as a team. I already had the projector set up because we were doing some other stuff, so it was easy to pull off. At 8, we clicked over and started watching Stephen Cole lead worship. Leading up to this, I was explaining to my team what LifeChurch.tv is about and how the internet campus works. We would mute the sound regularly and talk about something, generally what we saw them doing and how we could do something similar.
I think it’s great to get out and see how other churches do things, especially tech. One thing that we were playing with last Sunday was putting a live camera shot up as a background to the words in EasyWorship . Now, we were not doing this on the big screen but we did do it out in the lobby and it works ok but we are doing it through the video mixer, not through the software. Daniel ran EasyWorship alongside Mary and so we had a live video feed out to our flat screen in the lobby with words and audio.
After a few minutes, Daniel said he had to go, and he grabbed my keys and left. He went across the hall to the sanctuary and that was the last we saw of him for awhile. The rest of us continued taking in LifeChurch.tv . After awhile, Daniel came back and had rearranged some equipment and had things basically set up to do the live background. I need to get a 6 pin firewire cable to pull the video signal from the mixer to the computer, but other than that,we are good.
Now, that’s one of the things I love about my team, they are go getters. Daniel is one of the biggest go getters around, he gets a thought on something and gets it done. My main role is to point the direction and feed ideas and give appropriate access and people just go and do their thing.
We didn’t finish watching LifeChurch.tv but we did play around with some video equipment as we are beginning to fine tune this area. I determined last night that we are very much an A.D.D team, I don’t know how many things we chased last night but it’s all good. We had fun and we made progress.
Our ultimate goal is to provide avenues to present the message of Christ and not be seen in the process.
I have to say, I am blessed with probably the best tech arts team. They know how to get things done.
Completely unrelated: We are planning to visit Forest Park Baptist Church’s Saturday night service soon. I would like to make a connection there first. They seem to have a first class operation. I have also talked to a friend at College Heights Christian Church about our tech team going over to check their tech out some Saturday night, they are less than 2 months into their brand new sanctuary.
I think the more we, as a team, see how other churches do what we are doing, we are just going to improve.
Plus, Mike and I will get the OKC Mega church tour next Wednesday, the day prior to MinistryTECH, which will cover 4 churches and also the LifeChurch.tv tour on Friday night. All of this will be chances to see how others are doing it.
If anyone ever wanted a tour of our tech, they would be more than welcome. Not to try to lure you in but last week, I ordered a ton of new A/V/L equipment for 3 teaching areas plus some upgrades to our main auditorium. Things are only getting better!
