Trying To Get Back In The Groove

Posted on August 11, 2008

It’s been about 2 weeks since I have written anything and it’s been about 2 months since I have written anything consistently, so this is me writing and this is also me trying to get back in the habit of writing.

Really, for the last 2 months, I have been in the process of changing jobs. First all of the various interviews and getting references together and more interviews, then once things were nearly firmed up, the drug test occurred and background checks and various other things to prepare for this new adventure.  Finally, once I passed everything, I gave my notice, which for me was a long time coming but unexpected, I think, by my employer.  Then the mad rush began of transferring my knowledge of what I did in my job to several other people.  It’s always cool when more than one person is required to do the job that you have done for years, but the reality is that I think my position is just being absorbed into a couple of other peoples daily duties.  So, good for me and not so good for them.

As of last Friday, I have completed 2 full weeks on my new job and it is great.  It’s a move I was very much ready for and a position that I feel is a good fit for me.

It has also thrown off every other aspect of my life, because I am putting in 12 hour days often and driving much farther each day.  For the most part, my round trip in a day has been close to 200 miles, however that is starting to taper off.  I will normally only have a 60 mile round trip and maybe do the longer drive once or twice a week or less.

As I settle into this new routine, I am prioritizing many other things in my life and this blog continues to rise to the top.  So, I need to find the time to begin writing quality material again.

That’s all I’ve got for now.  As far as church goes, we just successfully pulled off a Beth Moore live simulcast and it was down to the wire getting our satellite up and running.  It ended up going very well and I hope we can run these type of events again.

As I mentioned, I am re-prioritizing many things in my life and that includes my service at church.  In my mind, I am coming up with how I am able and willing to continue to serve and that will play out over the next couple of months.  I’ll share those details soon, because I am planning some changes, probably mostly insignificant but you never know.  We’ll see how things shake out and where God leads.

Thanks for hanging around if you have hung around this long and I should be back in the groove soon.

Congrats also on the new job. I’ve been going through that life priority thing lately and delving more into service at my church and seeing that projects are off and running. It’s a lot more fulfilling to see what God is asking me to step out in faith in pursuing right now.

Hope to see some more great posts soon!

Congrats Jim - what are you doing now then?

I remember my daily drive routine used to be 350 miles minimum and I used to joke that I drove a car for a living. For the last 12yrs I’ve done 3 miles to work and 3 home - it’s fabulous.
